Nothing I shall want

The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
Psalm 23:1-6

This is one of my favorite psalms.

"There is nothing I shall want."

We live in a world so full to the brim full of stuff.

There is a want for materials that do not buy us happiness.

Happiness cannot be bought.

Though time and time again I tell myself it can because those clothes are exactly what I need to feel better about me.

Wrong-o.

Stuff is just stuff.

But it's not just stuff that we are obsessed with.

It's opinions from others that will make us less than what we are.
It's being perfect in an imperfect world.
It's getting sucked into the norm and selling our bodies, our souls to the evil one rather than dedicating ourselves to Christ.

But we as a people, a culture, treat our obsessions like it's a god.

Which is completely breaking the first commandment,

None of these  materials or worries will bring us happiness.

We can only be completely happy with Jesus, our LORD and Savior.

"The Lord is my shepherd."

I only long to be with Him.

"I shall not want."

The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
In verdant pastures he gives me repose.
 The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
Beside restful waters he leads me;
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me in right paths
for his name's sake.
 The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
You spread the table before me
in the sight of my foes;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
 The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
Only goodness and kindness follow me
all the days of my life;
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
for years to come.
 The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
