Permanent Tattoos

She was tattooed in tears
Branded in pain
She didn't ask to be different
She stood apart
Hating the loneliness
Her cross she bore without a Simon
Comforted though may be
And loved by many
She was still only a number
A dog tag around her frail neck
She felt the needle again
Permanent water stains on her cheeks
Her skin now dry
A heart broken and shattered
Not by one but many
She lives another day
She wishes for tomorrow
Tomorrow comes
Her future is unknown
It is unwanted
Trembling is her breath
Exhausted is her body
Misunderstood is all she feels
She sees perfection around her
She feels the brokenness inside
Exposed
Diseased
Helpless
A patient in waiting
The clock ticks slow
The race is not worth running
The prescription she hates taking
An obedient animal
A weak lamb
Led to live a life of suffering
Why?
A tiny sliver
The size of a mountain
Cheered on
Alone
Scared
Crying
Wailing
Why?
Continued prayers
Hopes and dreams
One miracle
She stays curled up
She fakes the agony
Her smile camouflages a frown
Her laugh trumps the scream she can't scream
Drowning
Her skin soaked
Tears kissing her face
Betrayed
Sensitive to the sounds
Stupidity flows from their lips
Turns away
Only to breathe
She can't
Oxygen thirsty
Again she cries
Can He hear?
It is His plan
Yes
But why?
Why her?
The sorrow
The frustration
The optimistic minded
Leave but a lump in her throat
Eyes say a thousand words
Her eyes remain speechless though
Looking at the ground
Wandering far but not far enough
Wondering what sparkle they could give
Wishing they were not shy
Only tears company them
Is it done?
Is it over?
She looks forward to the last page of the book
However she cannot read fast enough
Tomorrow they'll forget
She'll live
She can triumph through
Yet those tears will come back
They'll come back stinging
She will be covered in invisible and skin breaking tattoos
