While reading Matthew Kelly's book, Resisting Happiness,  the part about making God the center of my life really jumped out at me. Especially the part about "the God sized hole" and how we tend to fill that hole with anything but God.

What am I replacing God with?

Plans? People? Things?

We honestly think if we'd gone there and done that, we'd be happy, we'd be fulfilled.
We think having the perfect best friend or relationship will satisfy our hunger.
Again we honestly think having a grip on things will make us better off, further ahead.

But none of these things fulfill us.

We fall short. We feel empty.

Why?

Because...

“The desire for God is written in the human heart because man is created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw man to himself. Only in God will he find the truth and happiness he never stops searching for.”
CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 27
(AS CITED IN RESISTING HAPPINESS)

Only in God will we find true happiness.

Only God can fulfill our longing.

Until we make God the center of our lives, we will never stop searching.
