New York Times (Part I)
We made it there and back! What joy it brought my heart to see my sister sister!
Here are the headlines of our New York adventure:
The Rehder family divided and conquered starting last Thursday, Oct. 22nd. We awoke at 2 am and left Cottonwood for Lewiston airport at 3 am. AM people!
We were without the Papa Smurf Figure because he was in California on business.
So Ma herded her four young-ins single hand-idly through Salt Lake and then Newark where we met up with the father.
Thursday night we were all grateful we made it alive. We made it to the armpit of the country! For those of you who've been to Newark, you know what I'm saying. Funny I mention it being an armpit because we ate at Ruby Tuesday's. (Wait, that came out wrong...)
No, I mean the only other time we've eaten at Ruby Tuesday's was in Poccatello, the other armpit of the country! Hilarious right!? Both kind of hairy and scary... The towns! Not the the Ruby Tuesdays'.
Needless to say we were anxiously awaiting the morrow when we would wrap our arms around Sr. Jordan Rose in a hug! Or two..or three or five...or seventeen.
Friday came! At last! We took our rental car into Suffern, New York from New Jersey. We drove up the familiar drive way. The trees were absolutely breath taking! The colors were so vibrant!
Nicole, our deer spotter, spotted deer going up the lane. Then we rounded the final corner to the Mother house. Our hearts ready to jump outside of our chests. There she was! Beautiful as ever!
Our Sister!
So much joy over flowing! We went inside and met new faces of new sisters and hugged sisters of familiar faces. Our extended family of sister Sisters!
We then as a family of seven again, went to lunch and then also to Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site. It was a gorgeous sunny day and even brighter because we were all together! We spent the day just enjoying one another and then went back to the convent to have dinner with the other families of the sisters. We all got to partake in the evening prayers and delight in mingling with the sisters. So good! I can not begin to describe how beautiful and powerful praying/singing with the sisters was. Heart moving, really!
Saturday we stayed in Mawah, New Jersey. The next day we got up and had mass with the sisters. We then all got to go into the city to see the convents they have there. Visitation, and Sacred Heart. Sacred Heart is a convent where the sisters take mothers into their home and Visitation is where moms can find supplies for themselves and their babies. It was beautiful to see. We even got to meet a few of the mothers living there.
In each of the convents there are chapels and it was meaningful to me because Sr. Jordan Rose told me that mass had been said for me here. Their love being out poured over me. Unforgettable.
The sisters and their families also went to St. Pat's cathedral. It was all finished from renovation. It was stunning! We had the honor of going down in the crypt where Cardinal O'Connor, the founder of the Sisters of Life, is buried. (There with other very holy men.) What a privilege and a blessing it was to be in the presence of such godly men.
After our visits in the city we went back to the Mother house for dinner and a bond fire. Singing and bonding over s'mores was so much fun! Great music with everything from Veggie tales Cheeseburger song, Country Roads, to Oceans etc. Dad wanting My Sharona. Oh dear! It was a blast! Something we must keep as a Sister tradition!
The story continues as of tomorrow's blog post. Don't miss out on the Rehder adventure that will be sure to make you want to say "Liar liar pants on fire." Oh yes. Tune into tomorrow!
