Our Lady of Czestochowa
Today is the feast of Our Lady of Czestochowa!
She is also known as the Black Madonna, Healer of the Sick, Mother of Mercy and Queen of Poland.
Tradition says that the painting was by St. Luke.
Across Our Lady's right cheek are three cuts. The one who desecrated the image died after making the third mark.
Still to this day in Poland, Our Lady of Czestochowa, is Queen. It is written as a law, there will be no other queen.
"In the eyes of the Black Madonna, we perceive a tender and loving gaze, which seems to follow us, and draws us to contemplate the beauty and mystery of divine life. While revealing her contemplation of the works and wonders of the Creator, Mary’s eyes also reveal her compassion, compunction, and co-suffering with Christ. For an encounter with the Mother and the newborn Christ—homeless, poor, radically dependent and vulnerable—is an encounter with suffering."
Six or seven years ago, my dad was in the airport and a woman approached him and handed him a holy card of Our Lady of Czestochowa. She told my dad she didn't know why she was giving him the holy card but my dad thanked her and told her about me. She was certain it was meant for me and for my healing.
I love Poland, because I love the people. I haven't met anyone Polish, but Pope John Paul II, whom I strive to become like, is proof of how beautiful and lovable the Polish people are. How faithful they are and how they honor Mary as Queen.
After everything the Polish people went through with the Nazi government and holocaust, they remain faithful and their Queen's title, "Mother of Mercy" speaks powerfully because of their faith.

"The sacrifice of her life in the obedience of faith, always pointing us to her baby King."

Totus tuus (“I am all yours”). She gave everything to be His Mother and He gave her everything to be her Son.
I was not familiar with Our Lady of Czestochowa until recently.

Our Lady of Czestochowa, Queen of Poland, be Mother and healer to us all.
